Middle East Sports Law and SADER Legal held the first conference on Sports Law and Arbitration in Lebanon at Notre Dame University in Zouk Mosbeh, in the presence of the President of the Lebanese Olympic Committee, Dr. Pierre Jalkh and many workers in the legal and sports field, including the President of the Beirut Club, Mr. Nadim Hakim, as well as journalists from several media channels and platforms
The conference started with welcoming remarks from the President of the University of Notre Dame, Father Bechara Khoury, the Dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of Notre Dame, Dr Danny Samaha and journalist Majed Bou Hadir.
The session was moderated by SADER's CLIO Attorney Rany Sader. It was addressed by three experts in international sports law: King's Counsel, British sports lawyer Jim Sturman, who previously represented Chelsea and Tottenham, and Spanish sports lawyer Rosalia Ortega, who previously won the award for the best international sports lawyer awarded by the University "ISDE" in Madrid, and international sports lawyer and member of the Beirut Bar Ralph Charbel, who previously represented numerous players, clubs, agents and federations in front of the judicial bodies of the Federation Internationale de Football Association and the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne.
The session included a discussion on the competent authorities for settling sports disputes in Great Britain, Spain, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Also, each of the three experts gave their opinion on the new FIFA amendments concerning agents and the fact that there is a law for sports. Ralph Charbel also highlighted the most important gaps and problems in the field of sports law in Lebanon, stressing the importance of today's conference in consolidating the culture of sports law, which has its own specificity.
This conference confirmed that Lebanon is still capable of organizing international seminars at the highest level in the legal and sports fields.
