Note from the Custodian of the SADER Legal Archives

The SADER Legal Archive is considered one of the most prominent private documentary collections documenting Lebanon’s legal, political, cultural, and social history.

The collection systematically preserves the evolution of legal systems across multiple phases:

  • Ottoman Imperial Laws
  • Regulations of the Mount Lebanon Mutasarrifate
  • Legislation during the French Mandate
  • The Constitution and Jurisprudence in the Lebanese Republic

The collection also includes essential legal sources, including:

  • The Judicial Journal (the first legal periodical in the Levant)
  • Laws of Lebanon and Syria
  • Judicial Precedents of the Courts of Cassation

History of the SADER Legal Archive

The SADER Legal Archive was officially established in 2024 at the initiative of Mr. Rany Sader, as an extension of a journey that began in 1863.

Charles Hayek

Archive Curator

A historian and researcher specializing in public history, he works to make history more accessible to the public through educational and cultural initiatives.

He has served as Curator of the SADER Legal Archive since 2024 and has experience in developing projects that promote historical awareness and identity-building.

Rodaina al-Najm

Archive Assistant

Specialist in archive management and digital documentation.
